چکیده

This paper presents an automatic procedure for combining digital images and laser scanner data in order to have a full representation of a scene. In particular, this procedure will serve photogrammetric close range applications such as 3D digital preservation and documentation of cultural heritages by generating highly virtual reality models. Our method is based on a bundle adjustment for the orientation estimation of generated images from laser data and camera images by means of an optimized Structure and Motion reconstruction method. The output provides accurate control information for target free registering multiple laser scans and absolute camera orientations. The proposed pipeline was tested on a real case study and experimental results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented approach.

Digital Archiving in Cultural Heritage Preservation

This project presents a digitizing process of 3D laser scanner for culture heritage. The experimental records are mainly for systematic 3D model reconstruction and digital archiving of historical scenes. The procedures of digital heritage are 3D data acquisition, 3D modelling and web-based representation which demonstrate the reconstructed results and the application of virtual scene.

Digital Photogrammetry and Tls Data Fusion Applied to Cultural Heritage 3d Modeling

A great number of papers have been so far published about the comparison and the integration between terrestrial laser scanning and digital photogrammetry, as surveying and 3D modeling techniques. Though most of the works report about their application to Cultural Heritage, achieved results have shown that these two technologies can supplement each other in creating high-quality 3D recordings a...

Digital Preservation, Documentation and Analysis of Paintings, Monuments and Large Cultural Heritage with Infrared Technology, Digital Cameras and Range Sensors

The digital documentation and 3D modelling of Cultural Heritage monument and sites is receiving great attention in the last years. There is a large variety of technologies for 3D surveying purposes and generally a technique is chosen according to the project requirements, operator experience, budget and location constraints. Digital images and range sensors (laser scanner or stripe projection s...

Automatic Fusion of Photogrammetric Imagery and Laser Scanner Point Clouds

Fusion of close range photogrammery and the relatively new technology of terrestrial laser scanning methods offer new opportunities for photorealistic 3D models presentation, classification of real world objects and virtual reality creation (fly through). Laser scanning technology could be seen as a complement to close-range photogrammetry. For instance, terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) have th...

Fusing Airborne Laser Scanner Data and Aerial Imagery for the Automatic Extraction of Buildings in Densely Built-up Areas

Using airborne laser scanner data, buildings can be detected automatically, and their roof shapes can be reconstructed. The success rate of building detection and the level of detail of the resulting building models depend on the resolution of the laser scanner data, which is still lower than the resolution of aerial imagery. Building extraction from aerial images alone is difficult because of ...
